This Week’s Story: Faith After Tragedy
JR grew up in a world marked by crime, instability, and fear. He remembers seeing his father wrapped up in dangerous activity, and one day watching his mom cry at the door—not knowing whether his dad would ever come back.
In high school, JR began hanging around the wrong crowd, and by his early twenties, he was a full-blown drug addict. He remembers crying out to God, “I’m tired, I just want a home.”
That prayer led him back to the very place where he once felt hope—his childhood church. He joined an internship and began serving with middle school students. Being around kids, especially J-High, reminded him of his own teenage years. He often says his goal now is to be what he needed at that age.
Today, JR is living with purpose, speaking life into teenagers, and surrounded by a church family that feels like home. He says that even when you feel unworthy or unqualified, remember—God’s not done with your story.
Today, their story is one of gratitude and hope. Through faith, prayer, and community, they’ve experienced restoration and are walking again — not just physically, but spiritually — stronger than before.

JR’s Story — From Addiction to Calling
On July 1, 2023, what was supposed to be a joyful family vacation turned into a day that changed everything for the Fleeman family.
A tragic car accident claimed the life of their mother and left their father fighting for his. With broken bones, surgeries, and months of recovery ahead, the road seemed impossible. But even in the midst of unimaginable pain, God was present — bringing healing, strength, and the support of their faith family.
